GSW 144 – Prime Time Wrestling

GSW 144 – Prime Time Wrestling featuring Matches from San Diego Sports Arena, San Diego, CA – Monday, April 7, 1980

Bobby Heenan started the show excited because after promising a big surprise for the past few weeks, he’s debuting a new wrestler…Hercules! Monsoon is skeptical as they throw to ringside.

Hercules d. Tom Stone via HERCULES BACKBREAKER – SQUASH – Hercules attacked Stone before the bell but Stone actually took the fight right back to Hercules! The action spilled out of the ring and Stone whipped Hercules into the announce table! Heenan yelled at the ref to disqualify Stone but the match hadn’t started yet. Once the bell rang, a fired up Hercules took control and put Stone away.

Monsoon: Bit of a ‘Rocky’ start for Hercules.

Heenan: 10,000 out of work comedians and I get stuck with you. Hercules won. That’s all that matters.

Gorilla then threw to an interview with Rowdy Roddy Piper who challenged Harley Race to a special match for their rematch on Card 145. But he’s going to let Race pick the match!

Randy Savage d. Ted DiBiase via DQ when Virgil interfered after the FALLING ELBOW DROP – ★★ – Fans were really into this match and these two continued to brawl after the bell!

Iron Sheik & Nikolai Volkoff d. The Killer Bees when Iron Sheik pinned Jim Brunzell after 1 more – a belly to belly suplex – SQUASH – Mass confusion when Sheik attack Brunzell during the introductions and caught Brunzell with a hard belly to belly to pick up a dominating victory.

Back in the studio, Monsoon threw to a package where he and Heenan went to watch newcomer Paul Orndorff working out! Heenan belittled the newcomer and Orndorrf challenged Heenan to a push up contest. Heenan tried but quickly failed.

In a Grudge Match, Big John Studd d. Lanny Poffo via a BACKBREAKER – SQUASH – Studd gets revenge for Poffo beating him.

Heenan: Did you see Poffo try to body slam Studd…twice.

Monsoon: He wants that $10,000.

Heenan: Well, he’d better stick to poetry. He’ll make more money writing greeting cards than trying to slam Studd.
